Happy September! Now that we are in a new month a new season is soon to approach. With kids going back to school, cooler weather, and the sun setting sooner and sooner each day means autumn is near. It also means a change in plant material. If you have held onto your summer annuals this long, great! However, some of those annuals don’t thrive so well when it comes to cooler night temperatures. Each year we like to provide seasonal appropriate annuals for fall that work well with cooler temperatures.
September is also a really great time to plant perennials, shrubs, and trees. The cooler weather helps plants maintain a health structure without the added heat from late summer. Planting in September also provides enough time for these plants to get established and ready for dormancy before winter.
Tip: Be sure to minimize any fertilizing. Too much fertilizer this time of the year will confuse the plant into thinking it needs to produce new foliage and buds. An early frost/winter can cause serious damage to the integrity of the plant.
Right now, all our trees our 30% off, our perennial grasses are just $4.99, and all other perennials are 33% off. Shrubs will be on sale from Friday, September 6 – Sunday, September 8 for 25% off.
