Geranium
toxic to pets when ingested (more commonly a problem if plants are over wintered indoors.)
Geraniums are a popular bedding plant used in patio pots, hanging baskets, and ground beds producing colorful blooms. This annual enjoys full sun, regular watering, and routine deadheading. Choose from an array of bright colors.
Light: Plant in full sun with 6 or more hours of sunlight. Tolerates part shade areas with less blooms produced.
Temperature: Grown best in average summer temperatures. Cover, shelter, or bring indoors when temperatures dip below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Water: Water plants thoroughly keeping soil between slightly moist and drying out. Check soil by touching to feel its consistency. If it feels dry, give it a drink. If it is still wet to the touch, wait a day.
Nutrients: Feed regularly with an all-purpose or bloom booster plant fertilizer. Follow the directions on the label.
Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix. Regular potting mix is great. Always select a container with drainage.
Container Design: Geraniums excel in patio pots and hanging baskets as Filler plants reaching and filling out about 12”. They also excel planted in the ground to create a full garden bed with a mass of color. They can be planted alone or paired with other sun-loving annuals.
Deadheading: To perform their best remove spent flower heads, removing the entire flower stem. This keeps the plant looking healthy and will promote continued flower growth.
Happy Planting: Geraniums come in many different varieties, varying in foliage type and flower color. Most have a jagged leaf producing long stems with a firework-like bloom. Color options include red, pink, purple, white, orange, salmon, coral, and rose.
