Pansy

This Spring plant originated in England and is planted in ground beds and patio pots for Spring color. The pansy is by far the hardiest flowering annual for MN gardens and it is edible! Blotch varieties will offer what looks like a face within the color.

Light: Full sun for best results, tolerates part sun areas. Does not do well with intense summer heat.

Temperature: Prefers cooler temperatures, 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Tolerates as low as 28 degrees Fahrenheit.

Water: Water evenly keeping soil moist, do not let soil get soggy. Letting the soil dry in-between watering can help harden off in Spring.

Nutrients: Fertilize once every month to increase blooms using an All-Purpose mix. Avoid a fertilizer high in nitrogen.

Soil: Use a well-draining soil. Avoid heavy soil mixes.

Container Design: Purchased starter plants can be transplanted into a ground bed about 6-8” apart or into patio pots with other Spring annuals as a Filler plant.

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers by cutting the stem right above the leaf set.

Happy Planting: This fragrance Spring plant offers flowers that mimic little faces. It is also used for accenting Spring bulbs as a ground cover.
