African Violet

non-toxic to pets

African Violets are native to Eastern Africa and are desired for their cheerful flower and fuzzy foliage. Place in bright indirect light and make sure to water correctly for a successful plant that can live up to 50 years. These plants will bloom multiple times a year when provided proper care. Plant alone or group a few together in a small container.

Light: Bright indirect light or fluorescent light. Keep out of direct light or foliage will burn.

Temperature: Average room temperatures between 65-75 degrees F is great all year round.

Water: Watering this plant correctly is key. Water soil only, letting the soil take up what water it needs from the bottom. Keep soil slightly moist, allowing to dry slightly. They should never be bone dry. Overwatering is the main reason this plant fails. Always keep foliage dry.

Nutrients: Feed every 2 weeks or so with a high-phosphorous houseplant fertilizer or an all-purpose houseplant fertilizer at half the normal strength.

Soil: Use an African Violet soil mix or a potting mix with peat moss.

Repotting: Repot once a year to freshen up soil. Keep in small pots by pruning off 1/3 of the soil and roots and planting the African Violet slightly deeper into the pot.

Deadheading: Cut off spent flowers.
