Gerbera Daisy

non-toxic to pets

The Gerbera Daisy is great for gift giving for Mother’s Day or teacher appreciation. They offer colorful flowers, with long daisy petals that reach high above large, green foliage. They grow well in container gardens outdoors or indoors as houseplants in bright light.

Light: Mostly sun. Provide anywhere from 5-7 hours of sunlight for best performance. Provide some shade on hot days.

Temperature: Enjoys average summer temperatures. Tolerates temperatures as low as 45-degrees Fahrenheit. Cover, shelter, or bring indoors when temperatures dip below 50 degrees F.

Water: Water this plant thoroughly, allowing water to soak deep into the container where the roots reside. Keep foliage dry when watering. Too much humidity could produce a powdery mildew to form.

Nutrients: Feed regularly with an all-purpose or bloom boosting fertilizer. Follow the directions on the label.

Soil: Use a well-draining soil mix. Regular potting mix is great. Always select a container with drainage.

Container Design: The Gerbera Daisy excels in container gardens as a Filler plant, spreading to about 12-18 inches wide. Tall flower stems emerge from lush foliage reaching about 12 inches tall and bursting with color. They can be planted alone or paired with other sun-loving annuals.

Deadheading: When flowers fade in color and start to brown, cut back flower and stem at the base. Keeping up with deadheading will help plant continue to produce more blooms.

Happy Planting: Gerbera Daisies offer bright, colorful blooms with lush green foliage that may resemble a weed. However, they do continue to bloom all summer long providing flowers in orange, red, yellow, pink, and some that are even bicolor.
