Orchids
non-toxic to pets
Orchids are wonderful indoor plants with broad green leaves and brightly colored blooms native to tropical parts of Asia. The Moth Orchid offers large, fanned out blooms resembling moth wings. Tall flower stems offer multiple flowers that last 6 weeks or longer. They make wonderful gifts to loved ones and friends.
Light: Place in bright indirect sunlight. Avoid direct light. These Orchids can be kept indoors year-round.
Temperature: Average room temperature is fine. To rebloom they need a range of cooler nights and warmer days, temperatures ranging from 65-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Water: Water thoroughly every 7-10 days. Allow soil to dry about 1 inch below the soil surface before watering again. Enjoys some humidity.
Nutrients: Feed once a month with a balanced houseplant food mixed at half strength. Reduce feed rate to 1/4 strength in the winter.
Soil: Always use an Orchid mix.
Repotting: Repot in the spring every 2 years to replace and refresh soil. Orchids like to be slightly rootbound.
Deadheading: Flowers can last 6 weeks or more. When all flowers on the stem are spent, cut back flower stem at the base.
Troubleshooting
Plant does not bloom: Could be due to temperature or lack of light. Orchids needs a 10-20-degree difference between night and day temperatures. Also, try offering more substantial light.
